It’s spring and there is a LOT going on around Gahanna.
First, here’s this month’s Gahanna Police March 2014 recap.
Second, here are the stats from the Mifflin Township Fire & Rescue.
Third, and of high importance, is the recent outbreak of Mumps in and around Central Ohio. To Prevent Mumps:
- Get up to date on your MMR vaccine.
- Cover your cough or sneeze.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
For more information about the Mumps virus and our community, visit these links at the Center for Disease Control, Columbus Public Health, and Franklin County Public Health.
Fourth, and last, Gahanna is looking for volunteers for the Gahanna Cleans Green event. On Saturday, April 26, from 9am-1pm, residents can bring household records and computer/electronic waste for FREE disposal. If you’d like to volunteer, or to get more information about the event, visit Gahanna’s web site.
January 2014 Update
Hello, Residents.
Included in this post are the January crime report, Mifflin Fire/EMS report, and some important ice safety tips.
The Mifflin Fire Department asks that if you have a fire hydrant on your property, please keep it visible and cleared of ice and snow so in can be easily accessed in case of an emergency.
Another important note… The city of Gahanna has exhausted its budget for road salt. For the foreseeable future, the city will continue to plow all residential streets, but will only apply salt to major roadways. Some residential streets with dangerous curves or hills will be spot treated as needed.

Become a VOGHA Member!
The neighborhood volunteers do what they can to make this a great community, but sometimes they need a little help. Your membership contribution goes directly toward the maintenance of all FIVE entrances to our neighborhood, promotion of the neighborhood garage sale, new garage sale signs, creating and updating the community web site, and representing our neighborhood at City of Gahanna meetings.
VOGHA requests a $20 donation, but we will gladly accept whatever you can give. Please drop off your donations using the envelope you received in mid-June, or click on the PayPal button to the right. Don’t forget to include your address!
The deadline for annual membership has been extended to July 15. Please send in your donations as soon as possible!
2011 Annual Meeting Notes
Despite the rain and cold, the VOGHA annual meeting was held last evening. Here are the highlights of the meeting.
Sergeant Ethan Moffitt of the Gahanna Police Department reviewed recent crimes in or near our neighborhood including car break-ins. He then discussed ways to avoid crime: lock doors, don’t leave any valuables in car outside, close garage doors, keep track of serial/model numbers of your valuables.
Angel Mumma, Director of Finance for the City of Gahanna gave a brief yet informative presentation on Gahanna city finances current and future. She’s encouraged by recent economics including the jobs coming to Gahanna for Chase.
Donna Simmons, VOGHA Treasurer, gave the financial report. Of the 325 homes in our neighborhood, we have 133 households participating. After expenses of entrance cleanup and landscaping, we still have a solid bank account.
Don Jensen discussed developments regarding the distressed house at 1290 Granfield Court. Since it’s been abandoned, it has gone into disrepair and Granfield Court residents worked to get the City of Gahanna to declare it a hazard. It should be settled this summer.
The annual Membership Drive was reviewed and volunteers will assist in passing out the door-to- door flyers in June.
The ‘Welcome Committee’ was discussed and it was decided that challenges made it difficult to maintain so without a volunteer to continue the idea was tabled.
Don Jensen was ‘named’ Garage Sale coordinator by default. The dates for the Community Garage Sale have been set for June 10 and 11th.
Jim Cox volunteered to join the Board of VOGHA to assist with updating the website as well as signage for the garage sale. He joins Don Jensen, Donna Simmons and Marque Bressler on the board for 2011-12.
